Electricity usage is a concern not only for city municipalities but also for citizens. Municipalities have to consider their energy goals, and citizens have to think about their energy expenses. It is clear then that citizens are already incentivised to reduce their electricity usage. Therefore, it is beneficial for everyone if citizens are equipped to better manage their own electricity usage; PARENT seeks to do just that. It will investigate how ICT can help reduce household energy consumption. It shall also carefully consider the steps needed to support citizen engagement in electricity policy. Furthermore, the project will investigate the best technological, social, and legal choices which help citizens reduce their energy consumption. The project will use novel analytics, visualisation and gamification techniques to achieve its aims. Ultimately, the project will develop an innovative and marketable platform for participatory energy management. The project will be conducted in the cities of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Barcelona, Spain; Bergen, Norway; and Brussels, Belgium.
