The goal has been to create innovation and research projects that enable and support capacity building for urban transformations\, also in art and design. \nNow that the ENUTC programme is coming to an end\, and when the echoes from the last event\, the Grande Finale\, in Bucharest are sounding out – what could be said about the programme in terms of output? What came out of the 2 ENUTC calls? What is the aftermath? For the upcoming\, and last ENUTC Urban Lunch Talk\, agencies will discuss the programme’s purpose and results\, and what stood out from 21 exciting projects in 2 quite different calls. \nPanel of agencies\nKristina Laurell\, Formas\nElena Simion\, Uefiscdi\nEmina Pasic\, Swedish Energy Agency\nAsta Aleksandravičienė\, Research Council of Lithuania \nModeration: Simon Boström\, Formas \nUrban lunch talk webinar series\nThe urban lunch talk is part of a webinar series to discuss and synthesize cross-cutting research and innovation\, with diverse stakeholders across Europe\, and beyond. SUMMARY:Urban Living Labs in Action: From Europe to Latin America’s Neighbourhoods and Cities
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a digital workshop 5 december\, bringing together urban actors working with experimental methods such as urban living labs – the workshop aims to exchange experiences in urban transformation\, discuss new approaches and strategies\, and offer opportunities for international twinning. \n>> Click here to register for the event to make sure being invited to upcoming JPI Urban Europe and Driving Urban Transitions events\, and networking activities. The event will be able to join without registering here (Zoom). \nUrban areas are key to build robustness to deal with the bunch of crises and uncertainty of the 21st century. For that reason\, renewed efforts are required to address the stresses and challenges with innovative approaches in cities and to enhance the capacities of municipalities\, urban governance and society to act and therefore to enhance the robustness of urban systems to stress and disruptions caused by phenomena caused by the climate\, biodiversity and socio-economic crises. The urgency to reach agreed goals and significantly change human activities away from linear models of exploitation towards processes within planetary boundaries has never been more pressing. \nUrban Living Labs \nSuccess will depend on the ability to bring research results\, new governance innovation\, technologies\, approaches\, tools\, processes\, policy recommendations\, etc.\, into action in all our cities and form multi-stakeholder alliances for change. In that sense\, Urban Living Labs provide the experimental settings\, to test and co-create solutions and approaches among different stakeholders. \nThis workshop will bring together urban actors (local public administration\, researchers\, innovators\, grassroots organisations\, etc.) working in and with experimental methods such as urban living labs to exchange approaches\, similarities\, and differences. \nPurpose \nThe workshop aims to exchange experiences in urban transformation\, discuss new approaches and strategies\, and offer opportunities for international twinning. More specifically for urban living labs\, the workshop aims to \n\nprovide a platform for exchange and networking among the Latin American Urban Living Lab community and European participants and actors in this field\,\ndiscuss experiences with and impact of urban living lab approaches in urban contexts\, and\nestablish an environment for cross-continental learning from experiences and knowledge(s) generated in urban living labs.\n\nThe results of the workshop will be used for future activities and events with a focus on Latin America in the scope of the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership (DUT) and the ERA-NET Urban Transformation Capacities (ENUTC). \nAgenda \n15:00 Welcome note\n15:05-15.15 Input on urban living labs – Linking global ambitions with local actions\n15:15-16:00 Pitches (à 7 minutes) by projects/initiatives working with urban living labs in Latin America and Europe\n16:00-16:10 Short break\n16:10-16:15 Introduction to workshop: Learning from urban living labs across continents\n16:15-16:45 Workshop: Learning from urban living labs across continents\n16:45-16:55 Wrap-up\n16:55-17:00 Closing and next steps \nGlobal times \n15.00-17.00 CET – Brussels Time\n11.00-13.00 BRT – Brasilia Time\n09.00-11.00 PET – Lima Time \nContact \nJanine Halder – janine.halder@ffg.at

SUMMARY:Urban lunch talk: New perspectives and approaches on urban transitions – What is needed for policy making?
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a new episode of the Urban Lunch Talks series addressing new perspectives and approaches on urban transitions. The talk will follow up on a session about the topic at the Driving Urban Transitions Conference 2024 – in order to develop further what is needed for policy making. \n>> Go to the Zoom webinar. \nThe webinar will be recorded and published for the JPI Urban Europe’s Youtube channel. You may watch the episode by clicking this link. \n>> You may download the event to your calendar (ics-file). \n>> Click here to register for the event to make sure being invited to upcoming Urban lunch talks and networking activities. \nAfter an interesting session at the Driving Urban Transitions Conference in Brussels about projects pushing the boundaries for new perspectives and approaches on urban transitions\, there is a need to speak further about how change will come through policy making. For the conversations in the upcoming Urban Lunch Talk about how to move forward for policy making\, representants from the city/region\, state and international levels are invited for a panel discussion. \nThe theme of the event is connected to the ENUTC call (BTC) about the impact of art and design for urban transformation. We seem to be stuck in current modes of thinking\, and old solutions\, that were perhaps useful to solve old problems. This implies a need for research projects to emphasize the creativity\, and the cultural sectors – to support and enable the transformation of our societies (cities) towards a sustainable\, climate neutral and just future. \nStill\, what can the decision makers do when the research projects think outside-the-box – does policy making require the same kind of mindset? Obstacles for new perspectives\, and approaches on urban transitions\, and policy making are to be discussed Monday\, May 27 at lunch. Most welcome! \nPanel guests\n\nJenny Kornmacher\, Innovations Director\, EIT Culture & Creativity\n\nSpecialized in creative industries development and international relations\, Jenny is an experienced leader within the cultural sectors of Europe. Based in the south of Sweden working for Region Skåne\, she is also an Interim Innovations Director for the EIT Culture & Creativity. Jenny is ambitious to connect industries and creative sectors in order to support the innovation potential in a larger context\, and through the business oriented Breakthrough Lab concept\, innovation is promoted. She holds a Master of Arts focused in cultural studies/critical theory and analysis from Leuphana University of Lüneburg. \n\nAnnika Enqvist\, Research and Education Coordinator\, Public Art Agency Sweden\n\nHer role contains building a new line of public programmes and mediation of public art\, in relation to current societal and cultural issues – providing opportunities for mutual learning\, and a broad dissemination of knowledge around public art. Enqvist is managing and curating the public programming with exhibitions\, performances\, public talks\, and conferences for the agency’s public venue in Stockholm. She has developed university courses on artistic processes in the public realm at Blekinge Institute of Technology\, and Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Enqvist is educated at Stockholm University and Konstfack University of Arts\, Crafts and Design\, with an MA in curatorial studies. \n\nSusanne Thurén\, Strategic Urban Development\, Umeå\, Sweden\n\nSusanne is engaged with strategic and sustainable urban development at Umeå in Sweden\, part of NetZeroCities 112 Mission Cities (precursor to Cities Mission). Together with planners\, statisticians\, and analysts\, a politicial stance is developed for the future of urban Umeå – where Susanne points to the role of culture and creative business. She has a background within the fields of international economics and policy making\, with a degree in public administration and economics from Umeå University. Susanne has previously worked as a Deputy Director at the International Department at the Ministry of Finance\, Government Offices of Sweden. \nModerator\n\nJohannes Riegler\, Management Board Member\, Driving Urban Transitions\n\nJohannes engages urban actors to develop a transnational research and innovation programme for regenerative and livable urban futures. Multi-actor processes are designed to bring research communities\, public urban administrations\, urban change makers and anyone enthusiastic about urban areas together – challenges ahead could be tackled by exchanging knowledge and co-create. Johannes earned his urbanist (MA)\, and geographer (BSc) studies in Brussels\, Vienna\, Copenhagen\, Madrid\, Budapest and Klagenfurt. \nUrban lunch talk webinar series\nThe urban lunch talk is part of a webinar series to discuss and synthesize cross-cutting research and innovation\, with diverse stakeholders across Europe\, and beyond. The webinar is more of a listening experience\, so that you can enjoy your lunch or taking a walk at the same time. The urban lunch talk is live-recorded in Zoom\, and later published for the JPI Urban Europe’s Youtube channel.

With the new envisioned future theme\, the event will involve discussions on how to imagine a sustainable urban future with aesthetic perspectives and approaches. After the Urban lunch talk\, 12 am–1 pm\, short information of a new call about art and design will follow\, 1–1.30 pm.\nPlease observe that the date has been changed to 27 February 2023. The event is going to be performed as a Zoom webinar\, and you may save the event in your calendar (ics-file). \nClick here to register for the event in order to make sure being invited to upcoming Urban lunch talks and networking activities. \n>>Click here to go to the Zoom webinar (also without pre-registering).  \nAfter the Urban lunch talk\, an information meeting (1–1.30 pm) about a new call about art and design will follow in the Zoom webinar. \nThe webinar was recorded in Zoom\, and published for the JPI Urban Europe’s Youtube channel. You may watch the episode by clicking this link. \nNew envisioned future theme\nThe Urban Lunch Talk concept has newly shifted focus to the partnership Driving Urban Transition (DUT) part about sustainable futures. The upcoming talk will involve discussions about an envisioned future with art and design based on the latest research and innovation knowledge. How can urban dilemmas be addressed with aesthetics\, what is there to be achieved – what will a sustainable urban future be and look like? \nImagination as a tool for urban transformation\nOur current crisis is not only about the environment and the climate\, but also a crisis of the imagination. We seem simply not capable of imagining the sustainable societies of tomorrow\, but are stuck in current modes of thinking and old solutions that were perhaps useful to solve old problems. There is a need to emphasize the importance of imagination\, creativity and the cultural sector\, to support and enable the transformation of our societies towards a sustainable\, climate neutral and just future. \nThe thematics of art and design are closely linked to the upcoming call within the ERA-Net Cofund Urban Transformation Capacities (ENUTC) – learn more via the call pre-announcement. \nPanel guests\n• Cecilie Sachs Olsen\, Professor of Art in Society \nCementing the importance of the arts in imagining urban transformation\, Cecile researches the role of artistic practice in forming societal imaginaries and in materially making and shaping urban space\, lives and communities. Currently at the Department of Art\, Design and Drama at Oslo Metropolitan University\, she develops creative methods for urban research and explores how artistic practice can be used as a framework to analyse and re-imagine urban development\, space and politics. Cecile is also engaged in the JPI Urban Europe (ENUTC) project Conflict in Transformations (CONTRA)\, researching sustainable futures through arts-based methods\, conceptualized as “drama labs”\, as a new manifestation of urban living labs. \nWebsite: oslomet.no/en/about/employee/cecilies/ \n• Bettina Schwalm\, Experience Designer \nAs an Experience Designer\, Strategist and Researcher\, Bettina Schwalm has a long experience serving society\, culture and the environment. She is educating and coaching teams in innovation and future thinking\, always with a strong focus on behavioural studies. She is the Center Director for Konstfack (University of Arts\, Crafts\, and Design) at the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and a guest lecturer in various institutions worldwide. Her interdisciplinary approach is at the intersection of science and design\, developing hands-on tools and visions for organisations and the public realm. Her recently Vinnova-funded speculative design project “Signs of Change”\, in collaboration with Radical Norms\, explores aspects of Urban Transformation and the impact of extreme climate futures through public street signs. \nWebsites: bettinaschwalm.com\, signsofchange.io \n• Jenny Kornmacher\, Innovations Director EIT Culture & Creativity \nSpecialized in creative industries development and international relations\, Jenny is an experienced leader within the cultural sectors of Europe.
