SUMMARY:ERA-NET Urban Accessibility and Connectivity Joint Meeting & 15-minutes city Agora Strategic Dialogue

Note that this event is by invitation only.\n \nThe Joint ERA-NET Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) hybrid event is taking place in Bucharest and online between 15-16 May\, combining a midterm-event for the first ENUAC projects that started in 2021 with the kick-off events for projects funded in the additional calls and starting in 2023. In total\, this event will gather 27 projects. Planned for the Militari neighbourhood\, the new 4.2 km park has already started taking shape\, with the first phase estimated to be completed this spring. Street\, green pedestrian promenade\, dedicated to alternative transport and commercial life\, with above-ground passages\, playgrounds\, landscaping and facilities for outdoor sports activities for the whole family\, places where children\, parents and grandparents enjoy an active lifestyle. \nAccording to the District 6 City Hall\, the new Liniei Park will stretch over the former railway line on Liniei Street\, abandoned for 20 years\, which served several factories\, and the adjacent land\, over a width of 400 meters. It will have bike paths\, basketball courts\, a skatepark\, a children’s playground\, a dog area\, a dry-deck fountain\, hammocks\, and beanbag chairs. \n\nRomanian Design Week  \nThe 11th edition of Romanian Design Week (RDW) 2023 will take place between 12-28 May at Amzei Market\, Bucharest. Guided tours of the main exhibitions can be provided upon request for ENUAC participants. \nDuring the past 10 years\, Romanian Design Week has become the most complex event dedicated to the creative-cultural industries in Romania. The 2023 edition aims to identify and analyze the processes that generate innovation and give birth to truly remarkable projects. Note that this event is by invitation only. \nLearning from local needs to tackle critical issues of urban mobility transitions\nWhile providing an attractive narrative for urban mobility transition\, 15-minute City concepts need to be specified further when focusing on implementation and adaptation in different contexts. Building on the experience and practice of Romanian cities taking part in the EU Cities Mission “Bucharest – District 2\, Cluj-Napoca and Suceava”\, we invite participants from policy\, research\, business and civil society to discuss local challenges and critical issues for 15-minute City approaches. DESCRIPTION:The Karlsruhe Transformation Center for Sustainability and Cultural change (KAT at KIT) and the Urban Europe Research Alliance (UERA) invite you to the workshop Designing inclusive and engaging hybrid workshop formats with specific focus on urban transformation. The workshop will be held on 20th of July 2023 at 2 PM CEST. SUMMARY:Joint Mid-term and Kick-off Event for ENUTC and BTC calls followed by Agora Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:November 8–10\, participants from both ERA-NET Urban Transformation Capacities (ENUTC) calls\, including the Building Transformation Call (BTC)\, will gather in Delft in The Netherlands for inspiration and mutual exchange\, onsite and online. Projects from the co-funded call will meet for their mid-term event\, and the projects who are to be selected for the BTC call will see each other for a kick-off. Wednesday afternoon the funding agencies will meet for a Consortium meeting\, and there will be a possibility for the projects to meet up separately. Thursday will be dedicated to the joint mid-term and kick-off event\, and Friday morning will revolve around a Strategic Agora Dialogue\, onsite in The Hague. The days will revolve around the theme of the new call – what art and design mean for urban transformation. \n  \n \n  \nPurpose \nProject partners in the co-funded call will meet for a mid-term gathering\, and the projects who are to be selected for the BTC call will meet for kicking off together. SUMMARY:JUSTICE final event: What about justice in public transit?
DESCRIPTION:The JUSTICE project\, which examined accesibility inequalities to improve city strategies\, is sharing the project outcomes in a final event on 24th April\, in Strasbourg. \nFunded as part of the ENUAC project call\, the project addressed the challenge of developing effective policy options for urban accessibility and connectivity\, involving stakeholders in the process. Specifically\, the project JUSTICE relied on the idea that intra-urban accessibility is genuinely not the same for everyone. Spatiotemporal\, but also social\, physical\, and socio-cognitive inequalities arguably reinforce the intrinsically uneven nature of accessibility. Based in the south of Sweden working for Region Skåne\, she is also an Interim Innovations Director for the EIT Culture & Creativity. Jenny is ambitious to connect industries and creative sectors in order to support the innovation potential in a larger context\, and through the business oriented Breakthrough Lab concept\, innovation is promoted. She holds a Master of Arts focused in cultural studies/critical theory and analysis from Leuphana University of Lüneburg. \n\nAnnika Enqvist\, Research and Education Coordinator\, Public Art Agency Sweden\n\nHer role contains building a new line of public programmes and mediation of public art\, in relation to current societal and cultural issues – providing opportunities for mutual learning\, and a broad dissemination of knowledge around public art. Enqvist is managing and curating the public programming with exhibitions\, performances\, public talks\, and conferences for the agency’s public venue in Stockholm. She has developed university courses on artistic processes in the public realm at Blekinge Institute of Technology\, and Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Enqvist is educated at Stockholm University and Konstfack University of Arts\, Crafts and Design\, with an MA in curatorial studies. \n\nSusanne Thurén\, Strategic Urban Development\, Umeå\, Sweden\n\nSusanne is engaged with strategic and sustainable urban development at Umeå in Sweden\, part of NetZeroCities 112 Mission Cities (precursor to Cities Mission). Together with planners\, statisticians\, and analysts\, a politicial stance is developed for the future of urban Umeå – where Susanne points to the role of culture and creative business. She has a background within the fields of international economics and policy making\, with a degree in public administration and economics from Umeå University. Susanne has previously worked as a Deputy Director at the International Department at the Ministry of Finance\, Government Offices of Sweden. \nModerator\n\nJohannes Riegler\, Management Board Member\, Driving Urban Transitions\n\nJohannes engages urban actors to develop a transnational research and innovation programme for regenerative and livable urban futures. Multi-actor processes are designed to bring research communities\, public urban administrations\, urban change makers and anyone enthusiastic about urban areas together – challenges ahead could be tackled by exchanging knowledge and co-create. Johannes earned his urbanist (MA)\, and geographer (BSc) studies in Brussels\, Vienna\, Copenhagen\, Madrid\, Budapest and Klagenfurt. \nUrban lunch talk webinar series\nThe urban lunch talk is part of a webinar series to discuss and synthesize cross-cutting research and innovation\, with diverse stakeholders across Europe\, and beyond. SUMMARY:CONflict in TRAnsformations Seminar in Oslo
DESCRIPTION:The CONTRA project welcomes participants to their seminar “The Drama of Conflict – Working with Theatre in Urban Transformation” in Oslo\, Norway\, on 11-12 June 2024.\nThe organisers warmly welcome individuals engaged in addressing urban conflict\, citizen participation\, and arts-based approaches to tackle governance challenges to join us for the concluding seminar of the CONTRA project. This seminar aims to compare experiences and disseminate the results of our research focused on conflicts within urban spaces. \nAbout CONflict in TRAnsformations (CONTRA) project\nThrough a comparative study of urban planning law and practices focused on climate transition in four countries\, the CONTRA project studies how conflict is handled and investigates the connection with political and legal institutions to determine whether conflict is suppressed or actively used for sustainable transformation. The project also tests new ways to handle conflict. CONTRA pioneers a new model of living labs (Drama Labs) that uses theatre-based methods to experiment with productive conflict. SUMMARY:Urban Lunch Talk: TOD revisited – Urban planning and design in station near areas for less car dependent cities
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a new episode of the Urban Lunch Talks series addressing the theme ‘Urban transitions in times of crises’\, focusing on the importance of getting the areas within walking distance to train stations and transport nodes in cities right to realise bold visions of cities becoming less dependent on cars.  \n>> You can access the webinar recording here: https://youtu.be/9zqWF6AaBEk \nIn this episode we will shed light on the core elements of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and how it is implemented in Europe and China. What is the state of art in research and practice? How relevant is TOD compared to the 15minute-city concept to cater for attractive and walkable living environments? How do innovative solutions for shared mobility\, e.g. mobility hubs and toolboxes\, fit into the picture? How important is the walkability aspect\, i.e. that these areas are pedestrian-friendly? \nTransit-Oriented Development (TOD) as a concept for integrated urban planning has been around for a long time to boost efficient use of space in station near urban areas. TOD advocates urban development that prioritises and maximizes residential and office space\, together with major sports- and culture destinations within walking distance of public transport. It thereby promotes a symbiotic relationship between dense\, compact urban form and public transport use. Sometimes at the expense of open urban space and greenery\, it is argued. In doing so\, TOD aims to increase public transport ridership and ultimately to promote less car-dependent sustainable urban growth. \nIn this upcoming webinar discussions will take a starting point in findings from projects funded in the ERA-NET Cofund Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) in the JPI Urban Europe program. \nThe ENUAC project TOD2 is investigating areas in Sweden\, Denmark and China to develop a TOD2 framework with perspectives on public spaces\, shared mobility and innovative mobility hubs and carbon neutrality toolboxes. It aims to contribute to achieving reduced carbon dioxide emissions and reduced oil dependence in European and Chinese cities. What is TOD2? How do you apply TOD in Europe vs China? Are there differences between China\, Denmark\, Sweden with a focus on e.g. public spaces? \nEASIER aims to understand how we can shift people from private cars to more sustainable and active modes of transportation by studying the entire door-to-door journey\, with e.g.\, safer and more attractive public spaces to attract passengers. How do one reason about e.g. urban design in railway station area in Europe? And how can station near areas be made more attractive? \nWalkable urban neighbourhoods\, freeing up potential for sustainable and active travel by improving walking and its connections with public transport\, this is the focus of WalkUrban. The project aims to better understand local accessibility and urban walkability. Through exploring the links between objective\, subjective and perceived walking accessibility the project has identified key drivers for and obstacles to walking in various urban neighbourhoods in close collaboration with local stakeholders in three European cities (Genoa\, Dortmund and Gothenburg). \nSpeakers\nTodor Stojanovski\, TOD2\, researcher\, PhD in Urban and Regional Studies\, Computational Science and Technology (CST)\, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. \nTodor holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Studies at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. His research focuses on urban form and mobility\, urban design and transportation infrastructures\, habitation and mobility (sub)cultures. He has worked on research projects about urban form and transportation\, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). He has a Licentiate of Engineering (teknologie licentiatexamen) in Infrastructure and MSc (magisterexamen) in Built Environment (Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure) from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. \nGülin Göksu Başaran\, EASIER\, Industrial PhD at the Technical University of Denmark (Department of Technology\, Management and Economics) and Copenhagen Metro. \nGülin Göksu Başaran is an industrial PhD student in the Transportation Science division\, at the Department of Technology\, Management and Economics. She holds a master’s degree in Transport and Logistics and has experience with modelling large-scale travel and satisfaction survey data. Currently\, she investigates the influence of terminal design and urban surroundings on travel behaviour and public transport users’ satisfaction\, focusing on transit-oriented development and perceived safety. \nNoriko Otsuka\, WalkUrban\, ILS Research gGmbH\, Germany\, and Osaka University\, Japan. \nStudied Architecture at the University of York\, UK\, and gained her doctorate at the Joint Centre for Urban Design\, Oxford Brookes University\, UK. She carried out her postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich\, Switzerland and worked as a visiting scientist at ILS in 2013.\nAssociate Professor (Specially Appointed) at Osaka University\, Japan\, since July 2018. SUMMARY:Joint midterm event for the Innovations for Managing Sustainable Urban Accessibility projects
DESCRIPTION:By invitation only\nThe four Innovation Action projects funded by the joint programming initiative Urban Europe (JPI Urban Europe) in the Innovations for Managing Sustainable Urban Accessibility call of the ERA-Net Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC)\, are invited to a joint event online\, 15 October 10.00 to 15.00 CEST. \nRegistration\nRegistration closed. \nIf you are interested to attend the event\, please email us at info@jpi-urbaneurope.eu\, and we will look in to the possibilities. Note that this event is by invitation only. \nThe event will provide an opportunity for the projects to meet each other for knowledge sharing\, strategic discussions\, and exchanges on impact. Furthermore\, the event will give the projects the opportunity to present interim results and exchange information on progress to date\, particular challenges\, and solutions. The event is also an opportunity for networking and community building. \nFor the duration of a call\, projects are expected to participate in three events\, a kick-off\, a midterm and a final event. \nImportant note\nPlease note\, we expect at least 2-3 representatives from different project partners from each project at this meeting. It is also highly recommended that one city partner from each project also attends the meeting. Thereby\, we would like to get the cities point of view and learn about what their long-term perspectives about the respective project topics are. \nPlease be aware that this event is by invitation only.
