SUMMARY:JPI Urban Europe Workshop: How to more successfully match and interlink academic research with urban challenges
DESCRIPTION:How can we drive forward the urban transformations towards sustainable and livable cities according to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Europe and beyond? \nThe Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe\, launched by the European Commission in 2010\, kindly invites you to be part of this international workshop and to share your valuable expertise. \nThe workshop will be held in Leipzig in joint cooperation with the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ. The target group of the event consists of experts from cities / municipalities\, urban practitioners and urban scientists\, and with this we particularly aim at critically reflecting the existing situation and to foster mutual benefits by a strong exchange between expertise and experiences. This event offers you the possibility to formulate your needs and to share your know-how and your experience with key stakeholders that are engaged in urban transformation processes. Furthermore it gives you the opportunity to introduce and further develop your own network beyond sectoral and national borders and to get familiar with the JPI Urban Europe Initiative. \nThe programme includes a Welcome Dinner on 24 May 2018\, a Case Study Visit and a thematic Workshop on 25 May 2018. \nRegistration\nThe number of participants is limited. Therefore we kindly ask you to confirm your participation not later than 12 April 2018 via e-mail to Julia Esser-Grimm (j.esser-grimm@fz-juelich.de) and Evelyn Echeverria (e.echeverria@fz-juelich.de). Further information about program details will follow after positive reception of your participation \nPlease note that the workshop is free of charge. \nProgramme\nProgramme workshop in Leipzig

SUMMARY:Digital transition meets participatory governance
DESCRIPTION:29 May 2018\, CEMR Conference Centre\, Brussels – Stakeholder Workshop \n• What does digital transition mean for urban planning and participation?\n • What experiences exist in ICT-enabled open governance?\n • How to improve knowledge\, regulations and funding mechanisms across all levels of governance? \nCEMR and smarticipate partners invite you to discuss in a stakeholder workshop the questions above\, share your experience and find out what next steps are available to your city or region. This event is entirely free of charge or fee. \nWe want to bring together voices from local and regional governments\, academia\, national and EU level\, as well as connect different communities active in the field\, such as EU Urban Agenda Digital Transition partnership\, JPI Urban Europe\, EIP-SCC Citizen Focus\, Digital Social Innovation and others. \nCEMR: new initiative on open government\nThe Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) represents the interests of European local authorities and their associations in more than 40 countries. It promotes citizenship and exchange between elected representatives. Together with its members and in close cooperation with the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe\, CEMR is embarking on a new initiative to address open government and e-democracy. Your say will be important in further shaping the focus of this initiative. \nSmarticipate: learning with London\, Hamburg and Rome\nWhat if every citizen had access to the same information as their local government? The smarticipate project aims to use open data to make this a reality\, giving citizens the information needed to help shape their city. By making data accessible and understandable\, citizens are empowered to give input on new public services and solutions to urban problems. As project partners\, London (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea)\, Hamburg (Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg) and Rome (the City of Rome) are closely involved in the creation of a web platform that enables interested citizens to support the decision making process. The project acts as a learning journey towards a more participatory form of governance and will hold its final conference in Vienna on 7-8 November 2018. \nWorkshop programme and registration\nMore information on the stakeholder workshop programme and registration
