SUMMARY:Urban Living Labs: Experiments for designing radical urban transitions
DESCRIPTION:Over the last decade\, experimental approaches such as urban living labs have become widely spread across Europe and the world. Urban living labs (ULLs) are tools for transforming urban areas by engaging different publics\, from local public administrations and residents\, to businesses\, NGOs\, civil society organisations\, and more. Experimental approaches like ULLs can facilitate the co-design of radical transitions towards greater liveability in urban areas. DUT invites urban living lab managers to join the workshop “Experiments for designing radical urban transitions” to exchange perspectives\, experiences and ideas. You have the opportunity to share your insights about the requirements to take the big leaps forward towards sustainability and \nliveability. \nThis workshop aims at providing a platform for urban living labs managers to connect\, discuss and learn from each other. You will be identifying critical features\, methodologies and aspects\, which facilitate learning in and from urban living lab experiments. This includes identifying challenges\, barriers and potentials for radical urban transformations. Additionally\, we will discuss the essential conditions for ULLs such as funding requirements\, open governance structures and understanding participatory and co-creative process designs for applying urban living labs designing (radical) urban transitions. \nRegistration closed.\n

However\, access to mobility differ between geographical contexts and socio-economic groups. This Urban Lunch Talk discuss what this implies for equity and inclusion and ways forward to improve urban accessibility and mobility for all groups of society. Can participatory approaches ensure more inclusive city strategies and policies? \nWelcome to a new episode of the Urban Lunch Talks series addressing Envisioning a Sustainable Future. The Urban Lunch Talks is an interactive webinar series to discuss and synthesize cross-cutting research- and innovation results with diverse stakeholders across Europe and beyond. This episode will start from two projects funded in the ERA-NET Cofund Urban Accessibility and Connectivity (ENUAC) call issued in 2020 which focused on measures to improve urban accessibility and connectivity for all groups of society while moving towards more sustainable urban mobility systems. \nThe discussion will evolve around visions\, dilemmas\, ways forward. Looking at the past\, present and future: How inclusive was mobility 100 years ago or so\, what is it now and what can it be like in the future? What needs to happen to unlock the full potential of the 15-minute city concept in terms of inclusiveness? Are there lessons from the past? How much depends on R&I? Can participatory approaches ensure more inclusive city strategies and policies? \nSpeakers \nDick Ettema\, professor of Urban Accessibility and Social Inclusion in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning in Utrecht University\, director of the Urban Futures research program and board member of the Focus Area ‘Sport & Society’. Dick Ettema is the coordinator of the COCOMO project financed in the ENUAC call. \nAlexis Conesa\, Associate Professor at the University of Strasbourg\, Faculty of Geography and Land Planning\, LIVE (Laboratoire Image Ville Environment) of Univesrity of Strasbourg – Unistra and scientific coordinator of the JUSTICE project financed in the ENUAC call. \nMaximilian Jäger\, expert for mobility innovations at AustriaTech\, coordinates the 15-minute City Transition Pathway at the European partnership Driving Urban Transitions (DUT). \nNatalie Whittle\, a writer and editor based in Glasgow and author of the book The 15 Minute City – Global Change Through Local Living. Natalie also worked for 15 years at the Financial Times in London\, where she held editing roles across the magazine and arts sections of FT Weekend. \nModerator: Caroline Wrangsten\, Urban Planner SWECO \n  \nUrban lunch talk webinar series\nThe urban lunch talk is part of a webinar series to discuss and synthesize cross-cutting research and innovation\, with diverse stakeholders across Europe\, and beyond.
