In cooperation with the VerDuS programme SURF (Smart Urban Regions of the Future), the Research Schools TRAIL and NETHUR organize a 4-ECTS education program. This programme is tailor made for recently started SURF-researchers (PhD students, Postdocs, researchers) in both the 5 national projects and the 13 international projects (ENSCC-call JPI Urban Europe).
Join the programme to improve your knowledge, sharpen your skills and become a wellinformed member of the SURF community. Attending the SURF Academy also enhances the cohesion and possible synergetic effects between the SURF projects. All recently started SURF researchers are expected to participate in the Academy. The SURF Consortia Seminar on Friday 10 March is meant for the entire SURF community, i.e all members of the consortia of the 5 national and the 13 international SURF-projects.
SURF Academy: mixed programme
The programme provides a mix of fundamental knowledge about the SURF domain as well as skills for performing multidisciplinary research with SURF-practitioners. It is characterized by alternating lectures and assignments, many interaction moments between students and lecturers, feedback on individual research projects, and workshops.
First week (10-13 October 2016)
On Monday we start with an introduction and a workshop on valorization. You will learn how to do a short pitch about (the societal value of) your project. On Tuesday transport systems and transport innovations are the central issue. On Wednesday we focus on cities and urban systems, including innovations. We will also visit AMS (the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions). Thursday morning is about transitions in the urban domain; in the afternoon governance is the central theme.
Second week (6 -9 March 2017)
On Monday we reflect on the first week and responsible innovation (ethical and societal aspects of technology) will be discussed. On Tuesday ‘society’ is central again with a part on Cost Benefit Analysis and a part on the role of citizens and self-organisation. Wednesday is all about cooperation with non-academic partners and knowledge co-creation. Thursday is about knowledge valorization and dissemination.
