The European Commission annually runs the European Capital of Innovation Awards to recognize the efforts done by European and Horizon 2020 associated countries’ cities in stimulating innovation within their citizens and their societal structures. These prizes are one of the main tools to support the European Union’s efforts to reward best practices and initiatives aimed to build, enhance and promote vibrant innovation ecosystems that positively transform lifestyles and living conditions in urban communities.
The submissions for this year’s contest remain open until 23rd June. Cities from the EU Member States and countries associated to Horizon 2020 and with minimum 100,000 inhabitants are all eligible. The title comes together with a monetary award of 1 million €. In addition, the next 5 top-ranked cities receive a runner-up title and 100 000 EUR to advance their innovation-related activities.
