Cities are responsible for 70% of global emissions. Innovation must deliver affordable solutions to accelerate net zero pathways this decade. Cutting emissions from cities must be at the forefront of the climate agenda. In November we announced the new Urban Transitions Mission, led jointly by JPI Urban Europe, the EU Commission and The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (the largest global alliance of cities transitioning to a climate resilient economy). By 2030, deliver at least 50 large-scale, integrated demonstration projects in urban environments around the world, providing a pathway for all cities to adopt net-zero carbon solutions as the default option.
