Open survey to gather input for upcoming calls in the Digital Europe Programme (DEP)

The European Commission introduced AI Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs) in the Digital Europe Programme (DEP), to optimise development and deployment of AI. Stakeholders can now contribute with input on smart cities and communities before the call texts under the Digital Europe Programme are drafted.

You can now take the survey “Smart Cities and Communities- Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs) under the Digital Europe Programme (DEP)”. This survey seeks to gather input from relevant stakeholders and Member States officials before the call texts under DEP are drafted, expect the TEF calls to be launched in Q4 2021 at the earliest.

“We currently envisage to support one network of TEFs per sector. For example, applicants for Smart Cities and Communities would join together to propose one ‘network of TEFs’ project. We currently foresee that an individual TEF would receive €10 million funding, split evenly between the EU and relevant Member State. Given the anticipated budget of €30 million for Smart Cities and Communities TEFs under DEP, we expect a network to consist of six TEFs. This number of TEFs per network may change, should the TEFs network consist of smaller satellite facilities (for more information, see section “TEF concept & implementation” below). Smart Cities and Communities TEFs are expected to work with the end-users of the AI solution tested in their facilities. This end-user feedback will be important to facilitate commercial success of these AI solutions.”
