The booklet showcases 23 successful EU-funded projects on urban innovation that are transforming our cities into European and global actors pursuing open research and innovation, dealing with energy and climate, urban transport, nature-based solutions, green lifestyles in resilient cities, food, social innovation, well-being, cultural heritage and urban governance. It takes a closer look at outstanding cases, among which the much-praised cities of Paris and Amsterdam, recent winners of the European Innovation Capital Award.
As one of the 23 good examples, the SUGI initative is recognized for its joint endeavour to develop holistic approaches for the management of food, water and energy, which are usually considered in isolation. The EU-funded SEISMIC project is recognized because it brings together a wide variety of actors to identify and overcome challenges relating to the growth and transformation of urban
areas while in the ENSUF call, is a good example as it brings together urban development research and social innovation projects under a single transnational call for projects in a bid to foster
growth, job creation, innovation and sustainability across European cities.
