Urban Living Labs – Learning for Urban Transitions?

During a joint workshop organised by FINEP and JPI Urban in Rio de Janeiro on 7-8 November 2018, Timo von Wirth, senior researcher at DRIFT, gave a presentation on the characteristics, essentials and impacts  of Urban Living Labs (ULLs).

ULLs can be understood as spatially embedded sites for the co-creation of knowledge and solutions by conducting local experiments and can thus offer an arena for reflexive, adaptive, and multi-actor learning environments, where new practices of self-organization and novel (infra-) structures can be tested within their real-world context.

Watch the presentation to get a better understanding of ULLs promising characteristics and their capabilites and limitations to function as an instrument for urban governance.
