29 May 2018, CEMR Conference Centre, Brussels – Stakeholder Workshop

• What does digital transition mean for urban planning and participation?
• What experiences exist in ICT-enabled open governance?
• How to improve knowledge, regulations and funding mechanisms across all levels of governance?

CEMR and smarticipate partners invite you to discuss in a stakeholder workshop the questions above, share your experience and find out what next steps are available to your city or region. This event is entirely free of charge or fee.

We want to bring together voices from local and regional governments, academia, national and EU level, as well as connect different communities active in the field, such as EU Urban Agenda Digital Transition partnership, JPI Urban Europe, EIP-SCC Citizen Focus, Digital Social Innovation and others.

CEMR: new initiative on open government
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) represents the interests of European local authorities and their associations in more than 40 countries. It promotes citizenship and exchange between elected representatives. Together with its members and in close cooperation with the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, CEMR is embarking on a new initiative to address open government and e-democracy. Your say will be important in further shaping the focus of this initiative.

Smarticipate: learning with London, Hamburg and Rome
What if every citizen had access to the same information as their local government? The smarticipate project aims to use open data to make this a reality, giving citizens the information needed to help shape their city. By making data accessible and understandable, citizens are empowered to give input on new public services and solutions to urban problems. As project partners, London (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea), Hamburg (Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg) and Rome (the City of Rome) are closely involved in the creation of a web platform that enables interested citizens to support the decision making process. The project acts as a learning journey towards a more participatory form of governance and will hold its final conference in Vienna on 7-8 November 2018.
